Quiksilver Indonesia Pro Surfer Dede Suryana took part in heat 5 of the Moskova Trials where he was up against Marc Lacomare from France and Matt Banting, the Australian Junior Champion. Dede started out strong maintaining the second position, until Matt landed a medium score, pushing Dede to the third position. Dede needed a 6.75 to beat Matt, but despite several good maneuvers, his score came up to 4.90. The heats ended with Marc taking the first position, Matt taking the second position, and Dede in the third position.
