Makahiki is the Hawaiian New Year — an ancient endeavor that celebrates life and centers itself around community. It kicks of with a festival that involves plenty of eating and sports (not necessarily in that order), and it has been going down since the days of old. Last week, Zeke Lau hosted his own version of it — and he invited the entire North Shore to join him.

It was attended by everyone from Kelly Slater to the local children. Food was eaten. Fun was had. It was an amazing way to educate people and make them smile at the same time. Just dig the photos for proof.
