Mikey Wright

  • Name: Mikey Wright
  • Date of Birth: 14/09/96
  • Hometown: Culburra, NSW

  • Mikey Wright doesn't do small. Everything the Australian does is big. From turns to airs. Edits to comps. Training sessions to nights out on the town. He was raised in a surfing family alongside his brother Owen and his sister Tyler, both of whom have had serious success in professional surfing - including a World Title for Tyler in 2016. Refusing to be overshadowed, Mikey made a name for himself as an amateur and an even bigger name for himself as a pro. He marches to the beat of his own drum and surfs how he wants to surf, which makes it forever interesting.

Our world moves fast. It goes a million miles a minute, spinning at the speed of infinity and never slowing down. You’re here today — fully here, engaged — then you’re gone tomorrow. Onto the next one. A new coast to explore, the next swell to surf, another moment to fall in love with.

Gone Tomorrow celebrates that spirit of now.

The France edition features Mikey February, Connor O’Leary, Zeke Lau, Kanoa Igarashi, Leonardo Fioravanti, Jeremy Flores, Ramzi Boukhiam, Aritz Aranburu, Marc Lacomare, Kael Walsh, Sebastian Williams and Mikey Wright. Filmed over a two week beach break blur, it’s guaranteed to make you want to go surfing.

The Details

6’0” 1/2 x 18 4/5 x 2 1/3 JS. Monster 6. Thruster.

How it feels

It’s really fast and it fits into the steep sections here well. But what I like the most about it is that it lets me turn as hard as I want. On this board, I feel like I never have to hold back.

Why he chose it

I’ve been working with JS and we refined my boards while I was injured. This new batch has some of the best boards I’ve ever owned, and this is the best board in that batch. It’s funny, because it’s the board I like the most but ride the least cause I want to save it for heats.

That board can be seen in use below, signed- Mongrel Mike ;)

Mikey Wright is no stranger to a Radical Time. The 20-year-old mongrel has a taste for cold beers, fast cars and pumping waves – everyone’s dream, right? Especially on Australia Day Weekend.

Maybe you plan on celebrating the 26th of January with a flag on your back, a tin in your hand, snags on the barby and Triple J’s hottest 100 turned up to well, 100. Or maybe not. Whatever your taste, we want to wake that restless spirit of adventure that lives within all of us this weekend.

Post up on a secluded beach with perfect A-frames. Explore that stretch of coast you’ve been meaning to check out. Surf a new wave, ride a new board. Or simply kick back on the sand at your local with nothing but the bare essentials: boardshorts and some good mates. We’ll be embracing every nook and cranny of this beautiful country we call home, and we hope you do the same.

So pack up and go this weekend! Explore, have fun, be safe, and do whatever it is that makes you feel Australian.

Mikey Wright rolls with Stab and Surfstitch to present 'Trunk Talk.'

Surfing in trunks is one of life’s greatest joys. Want comfort, simplicity and freedom? Apply trunks and feel the vibes rise. Boardshorts are far more to a surfer than material. They are a symbol of good times, of summer, of living high; for many, they represent vacation, for others they are simply associated with freedom from the shackles of employment.

This year Young Guns Surf is planning to go bigger, higher and deeper to find the best under-18 surfer on the planet. The final nine Young Guns will be packed up, blindfolded, and shipped off to a secret location where they will experience three days of surfing, competing, professional coaching and nonstop selfie moments.

This is where the pressure cooker gets turned on; the final contestant have gotta show up and blow up. No slouching. The format remains the same. They need to push some big rail turns, stomp some mega airs and combo it to the beach. With $10,000 USD up for grabs these 9 surfers want to bring their best game.

A film by Quiksilver and What Youth starring Mikey Wright, Bryan Fox and Javier Mendizabal.

Maybe it was an experiment, or maybe it just happened. But whatever the case may be: we ended up in Oregon, on a big hill, blitzing down it — and at another point we were were surfing in front of a forest, and then we were in a city. We were a lot of things, but mostly we were us.

With professional surfer Mikey Wright, professional snowboarder Bryan Fox and professional skater Javier Mendizabal we began by participating in Bryan Fox’s Rat Race event in Mount Hood, OR. And once that wrapped, we ventured into a variety of places to rip and experience. Which is what we do. Come see.
