An official "NO GO" call for the Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau was made by the event organizers at 9am today. Organizers have been following the development of a swell scheduled to hit the North Shore of Oahu this week Wednesday. Citing inconsistency and a lack of the minimum 40-foot wave face heights that the event requires for a full eight-hour day of competition, the event will wait this one out.
Organisers of the Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau continue to monitor a developing system in the Pacific NorthWest. As of Sunday evening (Hawaii time), the extra large swell scheduled to arrive to the Hawaiian Islands this Wednesday is not currently showing signs of delivering a full day of Eddie-sized swell. To run the Eddie, the event requires a consistent minimum of wave face heights of approximately 40-feet. Organisers will reconvene in the morning to continue to assess latest developments and will update the report then. Aloha.

Last year there was plenty of freesurf action between heats from all of our athletes - WCT competitors snuck in some surfing on lay days and young guns Leo Fioravanti, Kanoa Igarashi were rarely out of the water. Our photographers had their cameras trained on our team riders as they made every wave count.

With a field as broad as it is deep, calling the 30th Annual Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau “stacked” would be a gross understatement. Dynamic personal histories; far-flung geographical waypoints; wildly contrasting skill sets... all are in evidence this year.

Ross Clarke-Jones has the crazy eye and it’s the kind of crazy eye you want to be around, both in and out of the water. He surfs like a hellman and tells awesome stories – what's not to like? This year is Ross’ 28th year of being invited to the Eddie Aikau – and just like we said, he’s the kind of surfer you want to have around, even the Aikaus think so.

As the 2014 Quiksilver Pro France comes to an end, we wanted to reflect one more time on the magical little region known as les Landes. For two weeks a year, Hossegor and the surrounding area becomes a playground for both the world's best surfers and the common folk looking to mix and mingle with the elite wave-sliders. To illustrate the point, we tapped Surf Europe Mag's editor-in-chief Paul Evans and legendary European photographers Bernard Testemale and Timo Jarvinen .

We like nothing better than a Quik Pro – it’s a good excuse to fly in our team riders from around the world so they can do what they do best – surf (or not… depending on how the fickle French sandbank is feeling), smash baguettes (or shoot them ) and give good haircuts (you be the judge).
